The program for chidren in Pre Nursery reflects the belief that childhood should be a journey, not a race. In our designed program, children are part of a community where they are accepted, respected, understood, and protected.
After Pre-Nursery, our children will:
From 18 months – 3years old:
• Scribbles; enjoys using new finger skills and simple art media
• Much body activity and climbing
• Walks, runs, falls easily, jumps, rolls
• Needs help in dressing; dawdles
• Begins to toilet self (frequent accidents)
• Drinks from a cup, uses spoon (many spills)
Intellectual
• Uses 2- to 3-word sentences; usually hard to understand at age 2
• Very curious; likes to examine and explore with all senses
• Good observer, listener; understands more than is communicated
• Interest in books; turns several pages at once
• Names familiar objects people and pictures; can associate functions of familiar objects
• Asks names of things; vocabulary grows to hundreds of words
• Begins to organize and classify objects
Social
• Often watches other children, but plays alone or near another
• Little interest in peers; hits, pushes, grabs
• Is very possessive but shares sometimes
• Begins to “play house” or pretend; imitates others
• Watches and copies family and caregivers’ modeling
Emotional
• Suspicious of new situations
• Power struggles and tantrums are common
• Needs security of consistency in routines and guidance
• Shows independence of spirit
• Loves praise and hugs
After Nursery:
From 3-4 years old:
• Helps dress self/undresses fairly well
• Toilets self; accidents still common at age 3
• Climbs steps alternating feet
• Runs well; pulls, pushes, or steers wheel toys; jumps
• Throws, catches, and begins to be able to balance on 1 foot, then hop; can walk balance beam or line by age 4
• Can do simple puzzles and stack blocks or rings
• Enjoys using dough, clay, paint, etc., and moving to music
• Has all teeth
Intellectual
• Listens to and repeats stories, rhymes, songs
• Talks in simple sentences; can be understood
• Knows ages and name
• Begins to recognize, sort and name objects
• Begins to ask many “why’ questions
• Understands today and often, tomorrow, but lives in the NOW
• Learns through hands-on activity and the senses
• Can sit on adult’s lap at PC and begin to use of mouse and software
• Better memory; attention span grows to 15 minutes
• Confuses fact and fiction
